 Looking for the extra needle

I was staying over with my great friend Nicky - a SENCO teacher (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) - last night as she's built an extension to her kitchen and we were celebrating !

I’ve known her since she stood at the top of the stairs in her enormously flared jeans aged 18 as we queued up to be given our “digs” at College …. Many moons ago!

This story reminds me of Nicky as she is relentless in finding the good in all the kids she teaches and in getting to the bottom of their challenges. She is an amazing teacher and a great friend.

“Einstein was once asked what he considered the main difference between his own intelligence and that of other people. He thought for a while, and replied; “Well, when most people look for a needle in a haystack, they stop when they find it. But I will continue looking to discover if I can find a second, a third and maybe, if I am very lucky, a fourth or fifth needle.”

• Do you continue to look for the extra needles in your kid’s attributes and qualities?

• What changes could you make this week to dig a little deeper to find the third, fourth or even fifth needle?
